Dr. Hans Kandel is involved in three major research efforts: First, his project team is investigating the effect of tile drainage on wheat, soybean, corn, and canola production at the research site NW 22. In addition to crop response to tile they are also monitoring soil fertility levels, water table, and water quality in observation wells. The second major effort is researching optimizing production practices for soybean production. A variety of experiments are conducted. The third research focus is on the interactions between dry bean varieties, inoculation, nitrogen application and harvest methods. The data generated is used for educational purposes and evaluation of the economic impacts of various management techniques.
