Drs. Chen and Schwarz visit a traditional rice wine factory in Jiangsu China

Plant Sciences Faculty Conduct Seminars and Research in China

Department of Plant Sciences faculty Bingcan Chen, Elias Elias, Richard Horsley and Paul Schwarz spent two weeks in China in early May. They visited three universities, presented five seminars and spent time evaluating the barley and durum Fusarium Head Blight nurseries in Nanjing, Jiangsu China.

Ransom Receives President's Volunteer Service Award

In May, NDSU Extension Service cereal crops agronomist and Department of Plant Sciences professor Joel Ransom received the prestigious President’s Volunteer Service Award for work in Senegal, Africa. He provided more than 100 hours of work with Winrock International’s U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) program.

Student Awarded at Central American Agricultural Conference

Plant Sciences M.S. student María Tobar Piñón was awarded first place for her presentation in the legumes section at the Central American Cooperative Program for the Improvement of Crops and Animals (PCCMCA) held in El Salvador, May 16-19, 2017. She presented “Genetic Diversity of the Guatemalan Climbing Bean Collection”. The results of her research are an important scientific breakthrough in bean genetics.

Award winning North Dakota State University cereal chemistry alumna Dr. Evangelina Villegas died April 23, 2017 in Mexico City. She was the first woman to receive the World Food Prize for groundbreaking research that has improved the nutrition of millions of undernourished and poor people worldwide.
