North Dakota State University Department of Plant Sciences visiting scholar Zhao Jin was awarded second place in the Post-Doctoral Researcher Poster Competition at the U.S. Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative (USWBSI) 2019 National Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in December. Jin works with Dr. Paul Schwarz on the malting barley quality project.

Jin was one of six award winners out of 67 poster presenters at the forum. Her poster is titled Fungal Localization and Mycotoxin Production in FHB Infected Grain and Malt Kernels.

The USWBSI is a national collaborative project established in 1997 to understand and combat FHB in wheat and barley in the north-central region of the U.S. Researchers from ten Land Grant universities participate and hold the annual forums to share progress and strategies fulfilling the mission to “enhance food safety and supply by reducing the impact of FHB (scab) on wheat and barley.”

The 2019 USWBSI Forum was December 8-10. Proceedings of the meeting will be available on the website https://scabusa.org/fhb-forum in early 2020.
