Wei Zhang presented his Genomics and Bioinformatics Ph.D. dissertation, Characterization and Manipulation of the Wheat B Genome on July 28, 2017 at North Dakota State University. Zhang’s research entailed transferring useful genes from wild relatives into the wheat genome by cytogenetic and genomic techniques.

Before starting his doctoral studies, Zhang, who is from China, worked as a visiting scientist with Dr. Xiwen Cai, who became his graduate program adviser. He chose to remain with Cai’s team because of NDSU’s excellent reputation with agricultural programs.

While working towards his Ph.D., Zhang was inducted into Gamma Sigma Delta, the Honor Society of Agriculture.

Zhang’s graduate committee members were Dr. Phillip McClean, Dr. Steven Xu, and Dr. Justin Faris. His adviser was Dr. Xiwen Cai.
