Cereal Science doctoral student Minwei Xu was selected to receive a 2019 Honored Student Award by the American Oil Chemists’ Society (AOCS). He will be recognized during the AOCS annual meeting in St. Louis, Missouri in May.

The purpose of the AOCS Foundation sponsored Honored Student Award is to promote graduate student research in lipid chemistry and encourage involvement in the AOCS. The award includes a travel and lodging allowance, as well as complimentary registration for the annual meeting, where recipients will present an award lecture.

For his award lecture, Xu will present Opposite Antioxidative Activity Variation of Soluble Free and Soluble Bound Phenolic Compounds during Yellow Pea Germination.

Xu’s home country is China. His graduate research topic is Improvement of the Attributes and Identification of Antioxidants from Pulse Seeds through Germination. He is advised by Bingcan Chen, assistant professor in food and cereal chemistry.
