North Dakota State University crop and weed sciences student Morgan Gallagher is the recipient of the first ever NDSU Libraries Undergraduate Research Award. The award “recognizes excellence in the use of library resources in completing an undergraduate research project,” according to the NDSU Libraries.

Gallagher is a junior from Ashley, North Dakota, majoring in crop and weed sciences with a minor in biological sciences. She is advised by Xiwen Cai, professor of wheat genetics in the Department of Plant Sciences, and she has worked in professor Phil McClean’s dry bean genetics lab.

NDSU Libraries dean, Joe Mocnik, presented Gallagher with the award, which she received for a joint research paper she completed for an NDSU English course, ENGL 324: Writing in the Sciences.

Gallagher participates in Sigma Alpha Professional Ag Sorority and North Dakota Collegiate Farm Bureau at NDSU. After completion of her degree, she plans to work in an area of agricultural research.
