Brendan Hanson was awarded a Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) Young Leader Scholarship. He is a junior from Rochester, Minn., majoring in crop and weed sciences with biotechnology emphasis and minoring in botany. He is advised by Kirk Howatt.

The scholarship program is “designed to expose future agriculturists to the crop protection industry and future career opportunities,” according to the MACA website. Candidates for the scholarship must be enrolled in an agriculture-focused program at one of the 13 Land-Grant Universities and have secured a summer internship within agriculture, preferably in the crop protection industry. One scholarship is awarded per university.

Hanson will intern this summer at WinField United as the Technical Seed Agronomist Intern, working with research agronomists on corn and soybean experiments in their AnswerPlots system. He will be responsible for plots in the Minnesota region.

In September, Hanson will attend the MACA annual meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, where he and the other scholarship recipients will speak about their internship experiences.
