Now is the time to complete the North Dakota State University College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources (CAFSNR) scholarship applications. The process is very simple and could result in extra dollars for tuition and college expenses. Scholarships are awarded based on specific criteria, usually academic merit, although some include financial aid awards (FAFSA) or other specifics. The deadline to complete the initial scholarship application is February 1, 2019 for incoming freshmen and March 1, 2019 for current students.

Many of the CAFSNR scholarships are available to Department of Plant Sciences undergraduates and graduate students within their specific academic programs. These students can also apply for the CAFSNR general scholarships.

To apply for scholarships, all students must complete the NDSU Academic Scholarship Application at https://www.ndsu.edu/onestop/finaid/scholarships/.

Follow these steps:

  1. Refer to deadline dates above.
  2. Students must use their NDSU Username and Passphrase, which are the same credentials used to access Blackboard and NDSU computer labs.
  3. The online “general application” must be completed each year, which is quick and easy to do. This will determine any auto-matched scholarships after the deadline.
  4. Students can look for additional scholarships that the system will “recommend”, which will require additional information.
  5. Once the application is complete, all correspondence will be sent through NDSU email accounts.

In the early spring (April or early May), students selected for scholarships will be notified by Dr. Richard Horsley, Department of Plant Sciences Head, and the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office and asked to “Accept” or “Decline” the offer.

After accepting a scholarship, the student must:

  1. Complete a written thank you letter and upload it through the NDSU Financial Aid and Scholarships system to keep on file. All mailing addresses are listed in their system.
  2. Print and mail the thank you letter to the donor or representative by June 15.
  3. Failure to complete the thank you letter may result in loss of the award.
  4. Scholarship awards will be disbursed through Campus Connection at the beginning of fall/spring semesters once enrollment and thank you letters are verified.
