Extension potato agronomist and assistant professor Andrew Robinson won the Myron & Muriel Johnson Excellence in Extension/Outreach Award at the North Dakota State University Agriculture and Extension Faculty/Staff Awards on December 8. The program, which honors employees in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR), was held in the Plains Room of the NDSU Memorial Union. According to the Office of the Vice President for Agricultural Affairs, this award was established by the NDSU Extension Service to “encourage and reward exceptional engagement in programming and innovative Extension/outreach practices”. Robinson began work at NDSU in 2012.

Nine other Department of Plant Sciences employees also were nominated for awards. Professor Juan Osorno was nominated for the Larson/Yaggie Excellence in Research Award; professor Frank Manthey was nominated for the Eugene R. Dahl Excellence in Research Award; associate professor Greta Gramig was nominated for the Earl and Dorothy Foster Excellence in Teaching Award; associate professor Michael Christoffers was nominated for the H. Roald and Janet Lund Excellence in Teaching Award; professor Clifford Hall was nominated for the William J. & Angelyn A. Austin Excellence in Advising Award; professor Hans Kandel was nominated for the AGSCO Excellence in Extension Award; research specialist Kathy Christianson was nominated for the Charles and Linda Moses Staff Award; administrative assistant Eileen Buringrud was nominated for the Donald and Jo Anderson Staff Award; and senior accounting specialist Michelle Grant was nominated for the Rick and Jody Burgum Staff Award.

Vice President for Agricultural Affairs and Dean of CAFSNR Kenneth Grafton presided over the program. Grafton, Associate Dean for Academic Programs in CAFSNR David Buchanan, and NDSU Extension Service Director Chris Boerboom presented awards. President Dean Bresciani gave a short address, and Provost Beth Ingram was in attendance.
