Four Department of Plant Sciences faculty and one student were honored by the NDSU Ag Collective during the annual Ag Week Banquet on April 23. Chantel Mertz was named a Top 10 Senior, and professors Marisol Berti, Richard Horsley, Juan Osorno and Joel Ransom received faculty awards.

Mertz majors in crop and weed sciences with minors in biological science and soil science.

Berti received the Herd Award, which is given for great advising and believing that “students come first.” Horsley received the Owl Award for teaching classes that are beneficial, fun, challenging and help prepare students for successful agriculture careers. Osorno received the George Washington Award, which is given to faculty who are respected in the agriculture community for their knowledge and contributions to the industry. Ransom, who retired in February, received the Golden Bison Award, which is given to honor faculty who have made great contributions to agriculture at NDSU and will be greatly missed.

The Ag Collective plans Ag Week yearly in the spring and holds other activities year round to promote agricultural literacy at NDSU and in the Fargo community. The 2021 Ag Week was April 19-23 and included a barbecue, games, professional development opportunities, crafts, a silent auction and the banquet.
