Matthew Pederson, a junior majoring in crop and weed sciences from Wheaton, Minn., was awarded the Mid America CropLife Association (MACA) Young Leader Scholarship.

The scholarship program is “designed to expose future agriculturists to the crop protection industry and future career opportunities.” Candidates for the scholarship must be enrolled in an agriculture-focused program at one of the 13 Land-Grant Universities and have secured a summer internship within agriculture, preferably in the crop protection industry. One scholarship is awarded per university.

Pederson will intern this summer at Riverview Dairy in Morris, Minn. His position is a production agriculture internship and he will work with forage crops used in dairies and feedlots. This fall he will attend the MACA annual meeting in Chicago, Illinois, where he and the other scholarship recipients will speak about their internship experiences.

The purpose of MACA is “to research public issues relating to crop production and to work together to improve the croplife cycle via health, safety and public education.” For more information, visit http://www.maca.org/.
