Patricia Cabas-Lühmann Defends Ph.D. Thesis

Patricia Cabas-Lühmann successfully defended her cereal science Ph.D. thesis on December 4, 2019. The title of her thesis is Causes of Dull Brown Color in Durum Grain Color and Traditional Semolina Pasta. She presented her exit seminar on December 13, 2019.

Patricia Cabas-Lühmann successfully defended her cereal science Ph.D. thesis on December 4, 2019. The title of her thesis is Causes of Dull Brown Color in Durum Grain Color and Traditional Semolina Pasta. She presented her exit seminar on December 13, 2019.

Cabas-Lühmann, who is from Chillan, Chile, received her undergraduate degree from the Universidad de Concepción and her M.S. degree in Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University. Her advisor is Dr. Frank Manthey, professor and leader of the durum and pasta quality project.

She chose NDSU for her graduate studies because it is well known for agricultural education and research. 

During her studies, she received several awards and scholarships.

  • Len Sibbitt Memorial Scholarship, NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (AFSNR) (2018)
  • Frank Bain Graduate Scholarship, NDSU College of AFSNR (2018)
  • Charles and Linda Moses Presidential Graduate Fellowship, NDSU College of AFSNR (2015 and 2017)
  • Second Place, Plant Sciences Graduate Student Symposium, Saskatchewan, Canada (2017)

Cabas-Lühmann also participated in several clubs and organizations.

  • Institute of Food Technologists (2019)
  • Cereals and Grains Association (formerly American Association of Cereal Chemists International)

Her graduate committee included Manthey, Dr. Elias Elias, Dr. Bingcan Chen, and Dr. Julie Garden Robinson.
