Ana Magallanes López won the Young Scientist Award for Best Poster Presentation during the 16th International Association for Cereal Science and Technology (ICC) International Cereals and Bread Congress (ICBC) online meeting. She presented her poster, Solvent Retention Capacity: Supplemental Solvents for Evaluation of Gluten Quality, during the closing ceremony. 

The purpose of this recognition is to promote and encourage scientific work in the discipline of cereal science. Finalists were selected based on originality, scientific merit, and expected research outcomes for the food industry, as well as the quality of presentation. The award was sponsored by the Journal of Cereal Science, the official journal of the ICC.

Magallanes López is a Ph.D. candidate in the cereal science program in the Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University. She is advised by Senay Simsek, Bert L. D'Appolonia Cereal Science and Technology of Wheat Endowed Professor and wheat quality project leader. 

The ICBC takes place every four years and involves cereal scientists, technologists, millers, bakers, and suppliers from around the globe.
