Horticulture senior Erik Laber received the North Dakota State University Harry Baker Memorial Scholarship during the 50th Annual Convention and Trade Show of the North Dakota Nursery and Greenhouse Association (NDNGA), held in Fargo January 29-31, 2017. The Harry C. Baker Memorial Scholarship is available to a North Dakota resident student enrolled in horticulture.

Laber is from Jamestown, ND and will graduate in May 2017 with a B.S. in Horticulture, production/business option, and a Crop and Weed Sciences minor. He is a member of the NDSU Horticulture and Forestry Club, the NDSU Saddle and Sirloin Club, and the NDSU Agriculture Coalition. He has worked at NDSU Central Grasslands Research and Extension Center, NDSU Animal Nutrition and Physiology Center, and South Dakota Wheat Growers, among others. His major adviser is Dr. Todd West, horticulture undergraduate program coordinator and associate professor in Plant Sciences.

Laber says he has “enjoyed pursuing a horticulture degree at NDSU because it is a fun group of people and I have learned so much.” He plans to work in Extension and have a C.S.A. or farm in the future.

The NDNGA is a professional trade organization dedicated to advancing the North Dakota horticultural industry. Mary Holm is the executive director and Tim Swedberg is a director of the board. For more information, see www.ndnga.com.
