Ikbal Tatar successfully defended her horticulture M.S. degree on April 9, 2020. The title of her thesis is Comparison of Two Single Curtain and Two Double Curtain Trellis Systems with Marquette and Petite Pearl Wine Grapes. Her advisor is Dr. Harlene Hatterman-Valenti.

Tatar conducted her research to evaluate the influence of a trellis system on fruit ripening and indirectly its influence on cold hardiness for cold-hardy, red grape cultivars, Marquette and Petite Pearl. The results of her research suggest that under North Dakota climatic conditions, proper cultivar selection is more important than the system for sustainable grape production.

Tatar completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Canakkale 18 Mart in Turkey. She plans to return to Turkey to work as a grape breeder and researcher.

Her graduate committee included Hatterman-Valenti, Dr. Edward Deckard, Dr. Esther McGinnis,  and Dr. Halis Simsek.
