Cereal Science doctoral student Yang Lan was awarded a Feeding Tomorrow Graduate Travel Scholarship to attend the 2018 Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) annual meeting in Chicago in July.

In order to be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be members of the IFT and a full time graduate student in 2018-19 pursuing a degree in food science. Recipients must volunteer during the 2018 IFT annual meeting, for example, serving as a session moderator, and submit a written testimonial regarding their experience after the meeting.

Lan is from Sichuan province, China. His graduate research focus is fabrication of pea protein isolate-polysaccharide complexes for improving pea protein functionalities. He is advised by Jiajia Rao, assistant professor in food chemistry and ingredient technology.

Feeding Tomorrow is the official Foundation of the IFT and works to promote awareness of and develop interest in careers in the food sciences. The purpose of the scholarship is to “encourage, promote and reward excellence of students pursuing careers in the science of food.” (See http://www.ift.org/community/students/scholarships.aspx and http://www.feedingtomorrow.org/)
