Eighty-two Department of Plant Sciences Students Honored at Scholarship Luncheon

Eighty-two Department of Plant Sciences undergraduate and graduate students were honored at the 2017 College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources scholarship recognition program on November 2. Altogether, $69,365 was awarded to Department of Plant Sciences students.

College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources Scholarship Luncheon

November 8, 2017

Eighty-two Department of Plant Sciences undergraduate and graduate students were honored at the 2017 College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources (CAFSNR) scholarship recognition program on November 2. Altogether, $69,365 was awarded to Department of Plant Sciences students.

Scholarship funds were provided to Department of Plant Sciences students by more than 60 sponsoring organizations including individuals, companies, foundations and organizations.

Fifty-four Department of Plant Sciences undergraduates received $43,980 and twenty-eight graduate students received $25,385.

Associate Dean for Academic Programs Dr. David Buchanan provided a welcome and acted as Master of Ceremonies. Professor Emeritus of Plant Sciences Dr. Cal Messersmith provided a response from donors and Crop and Weed Sciences senior Chris Eggen provided a response from students during the recognition program.

The recognition program included the following quote from W.B. Yeats:  “Education is not the filling of the pail, but the lighting of a fire.”
