Plant Sciences professor Edward Deckard received the NDSU Outstanding Faculty Advising Award at a ceremony and reception held March 26, 2015. The award recognizes advisers who are committed to helping undergraduate students reach their full potential.

Edward Deckard, professor in the Department of Plant Sciences, was selected by ‪NDSU Provost Beth Ingram to receive the Outstanding Faculty Advising Award. The award “highlights the importance of academic advising at NDSU by recognizing advisers who are committed to helping undergraduate students reach their full potential.”

Candidates for the award were nominated by students and alumni and must have advised students for at least two years. The candidates then provided additional information about their experience and approach to advising. A selection committee evaluated the nominations based on key qualities and made the final selection.

In support of his nomination, one of Deckard’s advisees wrote, “He is heartfelt in everything he does. His own confidence in us students succeeding is so strong it helps us find confidence in ourselves. He would drop anything in an instance if an advisee needed assistance. Dr. Deckard has provided me a path to which I can succeed.”

Colleagues, students and friends attended a recognition ceremony and reception on March 26, 2015 in front of the Advising Resource Center in the Memorial Union to honor Deckard and the Outstanding Professional Advising Award recipient. Larry Peterson, director of Accreditation, Assessment and Academic Advising in the Office of the Provost, gave remarks, detailing Deckard’s advising background and success. Provost Ingram presented the award.

Deckard’s photo is displayed outside the Advising Resource Center alongside a plaque recognizing previous recipients of the award.
