Seven Retire from Department of Plant Sciences in 2016

Seven employees who worked a combined total of 223 years in the Department of Plant Sciences retired in 2016. Theja Wijetunga, Louise Heinz, Bob Baumann, Mark Ciernia, Ron Roach, Pete Gregoire, and Bob Nudell worked in the department’s administrative office, and in the barley quality, crop physiology, forages, oat, weed science and wheat research programs.

Zollinger Named Weed Science Society Fellow

Zollinger Named Weed Science Society Fellow

Department of Plant Sciences Professor and Extension Weed Specialist Richard Zollinger has received the Weed Science Society of America’s (WSSA) highest honor. He was named a Fellow of the society at an award ceremony held during the WSSA Annual Meeting in Tucson, Arizona in early February. The honor is presented for substantial contributions in publications, education, and program development in weed science, as well as service to the WSSA and the weed science profession.

Horticulture Club Attends Landscape Competition

North Dakota State University Horticulture and Forestry Club students attended the 2017 National Collegiate Landscape Competition sponsored by the National Association of Landscape Professionals at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, March 16-18. One NDSU student placed in the top 1% overall, two students placed in a team event, and four students were awarded scholarships. NDSU ranked 20th of 60 national teams, and won $500 for the highest participation in the Career Development Series.
