Guiping Yan

Assistant Professor

Dr. Guiping Yan joined the faculty of the Department of Plant Pathology in July 2014 as an Assistant Professor with research and teaching responsibilities. Before joining North Dakota State University, Dr. Yan was working as a post-doctoral researcher at Oregon State University with Dr. Richard Smiley and earned a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Washington State University with Dr. Xianming Chen. She has worked with several economically important nematodes on cereal crops in the Pacific Northwest and has expertise in nematode detection and management. The research at NDSU will focus on detection, biology and management of plant-parasitic nematodes that restrict production of field crops in North Dakota. One of the research goals is to identify and employ the linkage of modern diagnostic methods and development of resistant cultivars to improve yield and quality of field crops that are threatened or potentially-threatened by nematode diseases. Dr. Yan will teach a graduate course in Plant Nematology.
