Venkat Chapara

Venkataramana (Venkat) Chapara joined the Langdon Research Extension Center in May 15, 2015 as the Assistant Research Professor (Crop Protection).

Before that he was working at North Central Research Extension Center as the Area Extension Specialist/Crop Protection.

Venkat received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural Entomology and Plant Pathology from Gujarat Agricultural University (India) and North Dakota State University, respectively. Venkat focused on studies evaluating Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L) varieties/genotypes against major pests in middle Gujarat for his Master’s degree. His Doctoral research was centered on Mefenoxam resistance in Phytophthora erythroseptica Pethybridge.

Dr. Chapara was a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist in the Department of Crop Sciences at the University of Illinois in Urbana, where he was an integral part of applied field, green house, and lab research programs; monitoring fungicide sensitivities and determining the efficacy of fungicides for suppression of corn, wheat, and soybean diseases with Dr. Carl Bradley.

His research efforts currently focused on integrated pest management systems for all crops grown in the north east North Dakota.
