Tree Workshop Review (April 21st, 2016)
4th Annual Tree Care Workshop Summary:
This year 15 people from 3 counties attended our annual Spring Tree Care Workshop.
The event began at 5:30 pm at the Rugby Cobblestone Inn Meeting Room and concluded around 8:30pm at the Pierce County Soil Conservation District Arboretum located in Rugby.
This year guest speakers from the ND Forest Service & NDSU Extension Service were on hand as part of our “Ask-the-Tree Experts” panel to answer tree and shrub related questions. Following our informal “Ask-the-Tree Experts” panel participants had an opportunity to view some common diseases and tree problems contained in the NDSU Extension Service’s tree display. Following this the group traveled to Pierce County Soil Conservation District Arboretum where we spent the remainder of the workshop learning how to properly prune trees, shrubs and fruit trees. Missy Lowman, Pierce County Soil Conservation District Manager was also on hand at the Arboretum to provide some history about the Arboretum’s development and provide tips on maintaining tree plantings that use weed barrier fabric.
If you missed out on participating in this year’s event, you will have other opportunities as this has become an annual program offered by your local NDSU Extension Service – Pierce County office and is usually held the 3rd Thursday in April. See you at next year’s event!
