The winter of 2010-2011 was colder than average with above average snowfall.  Spring planting began with barley and wheat April 28.
The last frost in the spring was on May 3.  With the exception of July, summer temperatures were near average for most  of the
growing season.  The maximum temperature equaled or exceeded 90°F nine times; twice in June,  five times in July, and twice in
August.  The highest temperature was 98°F on August 1.  Precipitation was near average in August; below average in May,
September and October; above average April, June and July.  Annual precipitation was near the long term average.  The mean daily
temperatures were above average in July and October; near average in June, August and September and below average in April
and May.  The first frost was September 15 with the first hard frost (≤ 28°F) October 19.  All crops reached maturity before frost.
Growing degree units in 2011 were slightly above average.  A storm on July 10 brought winds of 100 MPH plus, causing significant
damage.  Green snap in corn varied from slight to 80 per cent.
