Wheat Streak Mosaic Virus Detected
In early spring 2010 the identification of wheat streak mosaic virus was detected in the following Minot trials by Area Extension Crop Protection Specialist, Dr. Daniel Waldstein.
- Winter Wheat
- Winter Triticale
- Winter Spelt
- Winter Rye
These performance evaluations were in close proximity to other spring wheat nurseries. The risks associated with wheat streak mosaic virus spreading to the spring cereals would have become detrimental to these studies, and the decision was made to eliminate that risk by destroying the trials early in the season. Consequently, data will not be available for these variety performance evaluations in 2010 at the NCREC. Alterative data will be available from other Research Extension Center’s.
