Carrington Fruit Project Tour to be Online

Videos will be available starting July 14.

This year’s Northern Hardy Fruit Evaluation Project field day at North Dakota State University’s Carrington Research Extension Center will be presented online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Anyone interested can see the highlighted fruit selections by watching short videos prerecorded in the orchard. The videos will be available starting July 14 by going to the center’s website at https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/CarringtonREC.

“This year, we are highlighting two crops of interest in the state, aronia and haskaps, both of which are supported by specialty crop block grants,” says Kathy Wiederholt, fruit project manager. “Aronia has appeal as an alternative, high-value crop with health benefits, and haskaps are interesting because of the breeding progress and because they are so delicious.”

The topics Wiederholt will cover during this year’s field day are:

  • Orchard overview
  • Haskaps
  • Aronia

For more information about the field day, contact Wiederholt at 701-652-2951 or kathy.wiederholt@ndsu.edu.
