Archery teams from McIntosh, Morton, Steele-Traill, Stark-Billings and Ramsey counties were awarded first place in their age and bow style division at the North Dakota State 4-H Archery Championships held at the North Dakota 4-H Camp near Washburn.

Senior archers were required to participate in 3-D, World Federation Field Archery and a half-field round of National Federation Archery Association archery. The individuals’ cumulative scores from the three events placed the top four archers in the 2020 4-H National Shooting Sports Championships in Grand Island, Neb.

The 3-D archery event consisted of barebow and freestyle divisions. Participants scored 30 3-D animal targets at unknown distances, with one arrow shot at each for a complete round and total score of 300. Seniors shot a maximum of 50 yard-marked distances in field archery. The total score for field archery is 200.

The World Federation field archery course had four shooting distances marked from 30 to 60 meters, with a total score of 400. Beginner and junior archers participated in 3-D with an option to compete in the World Federation archery contest. None of the North Dakota teams competed in the World Federation match.

The top qualifying four seniors and team to represent North Dakota at the National Championships were:

• Brady Sand, Steele-Traill County, with a score of 779
• Tyler Brusseau, Stark-Billings County, with a score of 770
• Layne Larson, Morton County, with a score of 753
• Laryn Dees, Williams County, with a score of 727
• Alternate - Lane Ewald, Stark-Billings County, with a score of 705

The Stark-Billings County team placed first in senior freestyle. Team members were Brusseau, Maddox Ewald, Lane Ewald and Taik Larsen.

Senior barebow participant Syndey Steiner from Hettinger County placed first in the 3-D competition with a score of 194. Devin Fulton from Steele-Traill County placed first in the World Federation match with a score of 227. Steiner placed second with a score of 181.

The official state 4-H match for junior and beginner age youth is the 3-D. The junior freestyle division team from Ramsey County placed first in the 3-D competition. Members were Mathew Graue, Gannon Kurtz, Landon Kurtz and Benjamin Vetsch.

Individual winners were:

• First - Landon Kurtz, with a score of 228
• Second - Shelby Miller, Dickey County, with a score of 227
• Third - Madison Anliker, Dickey County, with a score of 221

In the junior division freestyle World Federation match, Kendra Boehm from Morton County and Madison Anliker from Dickey County were top archers with a tied score of 260. Karter Myers from Ward County was third with a score of 258.

The McIntosh County junior barebow division 3-D team of Camden Weist, Kya Weist, Hailey Metzger and Kennedy Gross placed first with a score of 441.

Top individuals were:

• First - Logan Jaeger, McHenry County, with a score of 171
• Second - Rachel Doll, Burleigh County, with a score of 165
• Third place tie - Camden and Kya Weist, with a score a of 150

Individual winners in the junior barebow World Federation competition were:

• First - Rylee Suhr, Griggs County, with a score of 249
• Second - Rachel Dunlop, Burleigh County, with a score of 178
• Third - Abigail Delorme, Rolette County, with a score of 137

The top team in beginner freestyle division 3-D consisted of Hayden Risty, Logan Hedden and Madeline Risty from Burleigh County, with a score of 598.

Individual winners were:

• First - Hayden Risty, with a score of 218
• Second - Jayden Paul, LaMoure County, with a score of 214
• Third - Walker Miller, Dickey County, with a score of 212

Individual winners in the beginner freestyle division of the World Federation match:

• First - Miller, with a score of 255
• Second - Zoe Peterson, Morton County, with a score of 236
• Third - Brylee Bloms, Ward County, with a score of 168

Individual beginner barebow 3-D division winners were:

• First - Ava Dunlop, Burleigh County, with a score of 149
• Second - Henley Driessen, Ramsey County, with a score of 112
• Third - Brooklyn Rohweder, McIntosh County, with a score of 76

No teams competed in the beginner barebow 3-D division.

Ava Dunlop scored 166 for first place in barebow in the World Federation match.
