The joint North Dakota State University Extension and University of Minnesota Extension 2019 Advanced Crop Advisers Workshop is scheduled for Feb. 12-13 at the Holiday Inn in Fargo.

The workshop is designed to provide in-depth discussion on topics to help agricultural professionals enhance their crop production recommendations for farmers.

“This workshop provides the opportunity to explore details of selected crop production challenges through interaction with participating in the event,” says Greg Endres, NDSU Extension cropping systems specialist at the Carrington Research Extension Center.

Educational sessions on Feb. 12 are:

• Cash flow challenges: 2019 outlook for farm profitability
• CSI: Crop detective
• Taking the burn out of acid soils
• Management of new and re-emerging corn diseases
• Soil fertility in strip and no-till systems
• What is data? What is good data?

Also, the North Dakota certified crop adviser of the year will be recognized during lunch.

Feb. 13 educational sessions are:

• Weather: 2018 harvest, 2019 forecast and utilizing the North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network
• Environmental impacts on soybean production
• Cover crops: Challenges with integration in row crops
• Growing something besides corn and soybean: Production issues with alternative crops
• Layers for licking weeds

Preregistration is required by Feb. 4. The workshop fee is $140, or $75 if attending only one day. The fee includes meals, refreshment breaks and reference materials.

The workshop is limited to 150 people. Preregistrations will be accepted on a first-come basis. Walk-in registrations during the workshop will not be accepted.

Certified crop advisers will have the opportunity to receive 10.5 continuing education units.
