2018 N.D. 4-H Ambassadors Elected

Four youth join the North Dakota 4-H Ambassador program.

Four youth have been selected to join the North Dakota 4-H Ambassador program.

The new team members, the county where they are enrolled in 4-H and where they attend school are:

  • Mitch Stuber, Slope County, Bowman County High School
  • Lucas Subart, Kidder County, Kidder County Steele High School
  • Sophie Lind, Morton County, Mandan High School
  • Jacob Arnold, Benson County, Maddock Public High School

They were elected during the four-day Extension Youth Conference (EYC) held recently on the North Dakota State University campus.

Ambassadors are elected through a scoring system based on several events the youth participate in during the conference. Candidates must meet and/or exceed the score required to become a North Dakota 4-H Ambassador.

The North Dakota 4-H Ambassadors are young adults who are actively involved in 4-H. Ambassadors help plan and coordinate many activities that teach youth and adults topics such as leadership, team work and citizenship. The 4-H Ambassadors specialize in planning and facilitating 4-H events, such as the EYC. They also help plan workshops, training sessions, and regional and state events.

“Going to EYC for the first time, I didn’t know what to expect,” Stuber says. “That soon changed, as I quickly got to know many of the 4-H’ers, who were outgoing, friendly and made me feel at home in a place where I had known no one prior to the event. The Ambassador team put on a wonderful, entertaining conference that ran smoothly, and made me proud to be involved with North Dakota 4-H.”

The ambassadors try to create events that are fun, educational and skill-building. They also take an active role in volunteering in 4-H programs in every county.

“I’d highly recommend it to anybody to try out,” Subart says.

“I met some of the most amazing people with a drive to succeed just like me,” Lind says. “It was such a good experience, and I know I made lifelong friends in that week.”
