Knowing what’s in the manure you’re spreading as fertilizer and how to spread it uniformly are among the topics that will be covered during the Nutrient Management Day program Aug. 22 at North Dakota State University’s Carrington Research Extension Center.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with check-in at 9:30 a.m.

Other topics that will be covered are the impact of herbicide residue in manure being used as fertilizer and manure spreader technology to adjust the application rate automatically, monitor the weight of the manure in the spreader and integrate variable-application rates with auto-steer capabilities.

The program kicks off with demonstrations on creating good-quality compost, new composting technology and compost turning.
