North Central Research Extension Center Sets Field Tour

NDSU’s pulse breeding program will be among the topics discussed during this year’s field day.

Crop production and technology will be the focus of the July 19 field tour at North Dakota State University’s North Central Research Extension Center near Minot.

The tour begins at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome from Shana Forster, the center’s director.

Topics that will be covered and the presenters are:

  • Drones, cameras and software for the farm and ranch - John Nowatzki, NDSU Extension Service agricultural machine systems specialist
  • Faba bean production - Cody Roland, Legume Logic, Crosby
  • NDSU pulse breeding program - Tom Stefaniak, North Central Research Extension Center (NCREC) plant breeder
  • New variety update - Chad Anderson, NCREC Foundation Seed
  • Canola, pea and chickpea seed singulation - Eric Eriksmoen, NCREC research agronomist
  • New biological technologies - Gary Nijak, Green & Grow Inc., Austin, Texas
  • Pollinators - Travis Prochaska, NCREC crop protection specialist
  • Northern Pulse Growers Association update - Brian Gion, association marketing director

“We look forward to sharing the most recent information on pulse crops with the producers of the region,” Forster says.

The program will be followed by lunch, sponsored by the association, at noon.

Also during the program, NDSU crop specialists will conduct a pest clinic. The specialists will be available to diagnose weed, disease and insect problems.
