Langdon Research Extension Center’s Field Day Set

The event will be held July 20.

Canola and soybean production are among the topics for the field day July 20 at North Dakota State University’s Langdon Research Extension Center.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts. Field tours will begin at 8:30.

“Agriculture is changing in northeastern North Dakota, so growers should attend the Langdon REC field day to learn how to capitalize on or address these changes,” center director Randy Mehlhoff says.

Issues that will be covered and the presenters are:

  • 2017 canola growing season insect update - Jan Knodel, NDSU Extension entomologist
  • Managing saline soil - Naeem Kalwar, Extension soil health specialist at the center
  • Faba beans - representative from Legume Logic, Crosby
  • Langdon Research Extension Center canola research projects - Bryan Hanson, center agronomist
  • Soybean production update - Lesley Lubenow, Extension agronomy specialist at the center
  • Center disease research in canola and other crops - Venkat Chapara, center plant pathologist
  • NDSU canola breeding program - Mukhlesur Rahman, NDSU canola breeder
  • Soybean inoculation issues – R. Jay Goos, professor, NDSU Plant Sciences Department
  • Beneficial insects for cropping systems – Anitha Chirumamilla, NDSU Extension agent in Cavalier County

Lunch will be held at noon.

The Northern Canola Growers Association and AgCountry Farm Credit Services are sponsoring the coffee and doughnuts. The association also is sponsoring lunch.
