Farmers, zookeepers and scientists will create a fun-filled day dedicated to the rich diversity of agriculture in North Dakota.

What does a combine do? How do flowers and crops grow? Where do toppings on a pizza come from?

The North Dakota State University Extension Service and several other organizations have teamed up with the Red River Zoo in Fargo to answer these questions and more at the first Agriculture Adventure Day. The event will be held at the zoo on July 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Farmers, zookeepers and scientists will create a fun-filled day dedicated to the rich diversity of agriculture in North Dakota. Hands-on activities, educational booths, farm equipment on display, face painting and special zookeeper presentations are planned as well.

NDSU Extension specialists and staff helping with the event include:

  • Abbey Wick, soil health specialist, will talk about crops and soil health.
  • Esther McGinnis, horticulturist, will provide learning activities related to horticulture and pollinators.
  • NDSU Animal Sciences Department staff and graduate students will be there to answer questions about farm animals.

Children will receive free admission and a free lunch will be available while supplies last.

In addition to the NDSU Extension Service, other Agriculture Adventure Day sponsors are the North Dakota Corn Council, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Forum Communications Company, Midwest Dairy Association, North Dakota Soybean Council, North Dakota Wheat Commission, Agweek TV, Agassiz Seed and Supply, Butler Machinery, Cass County Farm Bureau, Common Ground, Dirt Dynamics, Josef’s School of Hair Design, Inc., Labor Masters, Peterson Farms Seed, RDO Equipment Co., Stenerson Lumber and the United Soybean Board.
