Myron D. Johnsrud, a former North Dakota State Univeristy Extension Service director, was inducted into the 2007 National 4-H Hall of Fame on Friday.

This honor recognizes lifetime achievements and contributions to 4-H.

The induction ceremony was at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Md.

Johnsrud, a Watford City area native, received a bachelor of science degree from NDSU and served as an assistant Extension agent in North Dakota’s Williams County. He took study leave to complete master’s and doctorate degrees at the University of Wisconsin, then returned to NDSU as director of program and staff development for the Extension Service.

In 1971, he went to Washington, D.C., as coordinator of program and staff development for Extension Service USDA. He was named associate director of the NDSU Extension Service in 1973 and became director the following year.

Johnsrud remained as NDSU Extension director until 1986, when he returned to Washington, D.C., as acting administrator for the federal Extension Service. He later became administrator, a position he held for more than seven years. He later joined the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, where he served as director of Extension and outreach until retiring in 2002. He also served on the North Dakota 4-H Foundation and National 4-H Council board of directors.

He and his wife, Muriel, live on Pelican Lake in Minnesota and in Sun City West, Ariz.

Johnsrud is only the third North Dakotan inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame. The others are Sharon Anderson, also a former NDSU Extension director, and Lester Liudahl of Minot, a former 4-H leader and member of the North Dakota 4-H Foundation board of directors.
