  • Roles and responsibilities of a board member – specifically in conservation, stewardship and watershed management
    • Century Code walk through for board members/supervisors
    • Open meeting laws
    • Soil Conservation Committee/ND Watershed Leadership Academy site walk through
    • Enhancing ethical leadership
  • Group facilitation and the role of citizens in the watershed
  • Recognizing current state water and conservation issues
  • Day 1 evaluation

Day 2

  • Review of Day 1 learning
  • Project planning, management and monitoring
    • Watershed planning to improve water quality
    • SCD planning – district conservation business plan (what are our resource concerns, how do we address them and evaluate how are we doing?
    • Group mapping exercise of conservation concerns
    • Review of successful watershed projects/plans – how they were implemented and why they were successful
  • Lunch (30 minute)
  • Components of an Effective Meeting
    • Effective agendas
    • Parliamentary procedure
  • Navigating conflict successfully
  • Managing Human Resources
    • Board succession planning
    • Hiring and managing staff
