Community Forestry Grant Opportunities

 

The Community Forestry program offers several grant opportunities for communities. Spring grant applications are accepted March 1st through April 28th. Fall grant applications are accepted September 1st through October 31st. All communities interested in obtaining an application must contact NDFS Community Forestry Staff.

Community Family Forest (CFF)

CFF grants are funded by the Trees for North Dakota Trust Fund. The purpose of these grants is to honor families in the state by planting trees in ND communities and strengthening the tradition of annual tree planting. A public entity is eligible to receive a maximum grant award of $1,500; A Tree City USA community is eligible for a maximum award of $2,000. Only one grant application will be accepted per community.

America the Beautiful (ATB) Tree Planting

This tree planting grant is co-sponsored by the US Forest Service, and is intended to stimulate the development of innovative and effective tree planting projects that increase the diversity of trees in the community. Maximum grant award is $25,000. Multiple entities within the same community can apply for this grant.

America the Beautiful (ATB) Program Development

This grant is made available through the US Forest Service, and is intended to stimulate the development of innovative and effective community forestry projects other than tree planting. Maximum grant award is $25,000. Program Development projects include:

· Inventory or tree removal.
· Removal of ash trees as part of an Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Community Action Plan.
· Development of a Community Forestry Action Plan to increase species diversity in preparation for EAB.
· Educational outreach to expand awareness of community forestry in the community.
