North Dakota NEAFCS Unofficial Meeting Minutes

Spring 2020

The meeting was called to order by President Kayla Carlson on May 28, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. via Zoom.

Attending: Kayla Carlson, Rita Ussatis, Gabriele Nelson, Christina Rittenbach, Holly Arnold, Danielle Dinger, Sara Laite, Susan Milender, Ellen Bjelland, Ronda Gripentrog, Cindy Klapperich, Katalin Quale, Deb Lee, Dena Kemmet, Vanessa Hoines, Nikki Johnson, Molly Soeby, Donna Anderson, Kimberly Hermanson, Marcia Hellandsaas, Karen Armstrong, Erin Caroline, Becca Yarger, Shaundra Ziemann-Bolinske, Kendra Metcalfe, Julie Garden-Robinson, Kari Helgoe, Lynette Flage

Guests: Amber Stockeland, Taylor Geer (intern Cass County) and Roxie Price, NEAFCS President.

Price updated members on the status of NEAFCS Annual Session in Snowbird Resort, Utah. She relayed thanks for the Impact Statements from North Dakota in the areas of food and nutrition. Roxie had questions for members concerning sharing programs and knowledge across state boundaries as current circumstances lend for connections and more sharing.

Administrative Update- Lynette Flage updated on COVID-19 guidance, Extension applied for CARES money in technology and programs and website updates for FCW.

SECRETARY REPORT: Minutes presented. Motion to approve by E. Bjelland, seconded by R. Ussatis. Motion carried.

TREASURER REPORT: D. Anderson presented treasurer’s report - checking account balance is $3,588.77. The 4-H Foundation account balance as of last report received, January 31, 2019 was $11,468.53.  Motion to approve with corrections by V. Hoines, seconded by M. Hellandsaas. Motion carried.

Payments pending:

Decision to hold off sending International Federation for Home Economics $100 contribution until June 2020, pending conference occurrence.

Kristi Berdal retirement years of service still needs disbursement. Confirmation from Berdal on years of service.

 

 

Committee Reports

Awards/Recognition- Christina Rittenbach reported that three team applications submitted for awards recognition: Rittenbach to look for previous Skype training on how to apply for awards.

Member Resources- E. Bjelland submitted ballot for election of officers; welcomed six new members to the association (D. Dinger, R. Gripentrog, K. Hermanson, K. Metcalfe, G. Nelson, N. Smith). Bjelland is beginning service on national mentoring leadership subcommittee. She encourages other members to consider participating in national committees. Seven new individuals have joined NDNEAFCS.

Public Affairs- V. Hoines noted that PILD didn’t happen in person where association shares national Impact reports. Challenged members to think of ways to share the national ND Impact reports with leadership nationally, state, local and advisory council. E. Bjelland moved to honor Mandy Slag, ND Department of Health, with 2020 Friend of NDEAFSC, S. Ziemann-Bolinske seconded. All in favor, motion carried. 

Professional Development- M. Hellandsaas reported that the 2021 fall member retreat at ND 4-H Camp and Garrison cancelled for lack of participation. Will reschedule in November 2020.

State Fair Representative- No report, no 2020 ND State Fair.

4-H Foundation Representative- D. Lee reported spring meeting cancelled. Scholarships selected and awardees posted. Encouraged agents to remind youth to have all signatures and required pieces when submitting applications.

Old Business:

North Dakota submitted three national Impact reports. J. Garden-Robinson encouraged members to consider submitting.

Constitutional update – work in progress and will stay in tune with national constitution and bylaws updates. (Committee – J. Garden-Robinson, R. Ussatis, S. Ziemann-Bolinske, C. Klapperich)

New Business: (Team picture taken via Zoom)

After amendment, motion by E. Bjelland, seconded C. Klapperich, adopted to accept Deb Gebeke “Our Family Farm” children books fundraising proposal with individual commitment to Klapperich by July 1, 2020.

Election of officers conducted via poll vote – Vice President: Holly Arnold; Secretary: Sara Laite

C. Klapperich reported on JCEP experience.

 

C. Klapperich moved, R. Gripentrog seconded, president appoint committee to address cards and gift policy. Motion passed. Carlson appointed E. Bjelland and V. Hoines.

 

D. Lee moved, K. Helgoe seconded, to provide written synopsis of sessions when members attend national conference funded by Association. Motion passed. S. Laite, K. Metcalfe, N. Johnson to work up a fillable synopsis form.

 

Film Club - Food Security first issue, “A Place at the Table” June 11 discussion. Encourage others outside of FCW to participate.

 

E. Bjelland thanked K. Carlson for serving as President. Welcomed C. Klapperich as new President.

 

C. Klapperich closes with NEAFCS creed.
