North Dakota NEAFCS Meeting Minutes
Spring 2018

The meeting was called to order by President Julie Garden Robinson on May 15, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. at the Glenn Hill Center, Room 234, NDSU Campus, Fargo, ND.

Attending: Rita Ussatis, Deb Lee, Cindy Klapperich, Vanessa Hoines, Brenda Langerud, Kristi Berdal, Donna Anderson, Christina Rittenbach, Callie Johnson, Lynette Flage, Ellen Bjelland, Karen Armstrong, Marcia Hellandsaas, Macine Lukach, and Julie Garden Robinson.

Guest: Chris Boerboom

 

Secretary Report: was presented with no additions or corrections. Motion to approve by Macine Lukach, seconded by Marcia Hellandsaas. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: Donna Anderson reported the checking account balance is $6, 164.67. The 4-H Foundation account balance as of January 18, 2018 was $11,437.84. 

 

Committee Reports

Awards/Recognition- Christina Rittenbach reported that 2 award applications were submitted to Nationals.

Member Resources- Ellen Bjelland reported that there are scholarships available from national, to attend the annual meeting for the affiliate president and first time attendee, with funds from interest from the endowment fund.

Public Affairs- Vanessa Hoines moved to give the 2018 Friends of NDEAFCS to the ND Jump Start Coalition. Ellen Bjelland seconded. Motion carried.

Julie reported on behalf of National the importance of Impact Reports and as a state we need to find ways to promote the campaigns of Dining In and Living Well.

Professional Development- No Report- there is currently no one in this position

State Fair Representative- Ellen Bjelland- annual meeting was in November.

4-H Foundation Representative- Deb Lee- a consultant has been working with the foundation to get things back on track. The Bucks for Bunks is still happening and counties are encouraged to participate if they have not already. Scholarship winners have been selected.

FCS Promotional Committee- no report

Administrative Update- Lynette talked about the importance of the letters of support for our programs to keep them coming in throughout the year.

 

Old Business:

  • Accomplishments of affiliate- submit Impact Reports
  • JCEP- Callie Johnson reported on her experience.
  • PILD- Julie Garden Robinson attended on behalf of NEAFCS, and reported on her experience.

 

New Business:

Election of officers. Vice President: Kayla Carlson and Brenda Langerud; Secretary: Kari Helgoe. Rita Ussatis moved to approve slate. Donna Anderson second. Motion carried. Brenda was elected at the new VP and Kari as the Secretary. Rita U. moved to destroy ballots. Vanessa Hoines second. Motion carried.

National Perspective: Ellen Bjelland, NC Region Director and Julie Garden-Robinson, VP Public Affairs gave an update on the scholarship for the national meeting, affiliate webinars and the 85th anniversary.

New Idea of FCS volunteers in rural areas was highlighted by Cindy Klapperich. It is a curriculum that she purchased from Montana and used this past year in some of her programming.

Rita Ussatis moved and Brenda Langerud seconded that we purchase a gift for Chris. Ellen moved to amend the motion by adding that we spend up to $100. Macine Lukach second. Motion Carried. Discussion was held on where to purchase the gift. Motion Carried.

Ellen Bjelland moved and Macine Lukach second that we give a $50 memorial to the ND 4-H foundation in honor of Cindy Swenson. Motion Carried.

Marcia Hellandsaas moved to adjourn. Donna second
