TREASURER’S REPORT:  Lori Scharmer reported a balance, as of June 1, of $ 4,277.67 in the checking account.  The 4-H Foundation Investment Account ending balance on February 28, 2014 is $ 11,442.69.  Motion (Donna Anderson) to accept the treasurer’s report.  Seconded (Christina Rittenbach) and approved.

Awards / Recognition (Callie Johnson): North Dakota has 2 national award winners.  An official announcement of the winners will be made after the national meeting.

Member Resources (Karen Armstrong):  We have 33 active members and seven life time members in 2014. New members include Janet Wanek, Susan Milender and Mary Beth Black. Divya Saxena has joined the organization as a State only member.

Peggy Anderson became a Life member in 2014. Our new officers are Callie Johnson as Vice President and Kari Helgoe as Secretary.

Public Affairs (Julie Garden Robinson):  Julie asked for suggestions for “Friend of NDEAFCS” recognition and the Cancer Coalition was suggested.

Professional Development (Callie Johnson): The scholarship application was sent out in May and the deadline to apply is June 15. We haven’t had any applicants the last couple of years so it would be great if we could get a couple to apply this year.

Sam Roth and Callie have been talking about doing a Professional Development Retreat next spring/summer. It would include some the spring meetings, professional development and some fun. Since the NW District is the Professional Development committee, it would likely be in that area. Some idea were personal safety, human trafficking speaker, oil-related topics and some recreational activities as well.  A motion was made (Lori Scharmer) to schedule a meeting for FCS staff in the spring.  Seconded (Janet Wanek) and carried.

4-H Foundation Representative (Dena Kemmet): The 4-H Foundation sponsored the Clover Classic Shoot on May 31. There were approximately 50 individuals participating. The committee felt for a first year event it was a success and will be held again next year. The time frame may be slightly different, but it will be during the spring/summer.

State Fair Representative: Marcia encouraged members to volunteer.  Ellen Bjelland agreed to fill the position.

OLD BUSINESS:  Marcia reported, for Brenda Langerud, on PILD.  Marcia also gave a report, on behalf of Sam Roth, on JCEP:   It was great to learn more about our national organization and meet other current and incoming presidents. 3 interesting points

1-Some states have really lost FCS or Extension as a whole especially in the west, we need to continue promoting ourselves.

2-Much discussion was had about National Conferences, if they should keep rotating or go to central hubs with major airports such as Denver and just rotate every year or so among those cities. If they switched to hubs then the National office would play a larger role in organizing.

3-The National Board talked about changes to make our organization more current and encouraging younger members to run for national office. One suggestion was to look at the National Board positions and revamping. Any suggestions from the group on this topic?

Marcia reported on news from the NEAFCS Central Region Director, Nancy Stehulak, and news from Kathleen Olson, the national president.

Lori Scharmer gave a written report on work of the FCS Promotional Committee.  Committee members are Rita Ussatis, Vanessa Hoines, Kim Bushaw, Cindy Klapperich, Marcia Hellandsaas, Samantha Roth, and Lori Scharmer.  Lori invited others to continue work of the committee.  Ellen Bjelland, Donna Anderson, and Dena Kemmet volunteered.

Deb Gebeke reported on upcoming face-to-face meetings for FCS staff.  The meetings will focus on programs for the coming year, FCS promotion, and Impact Reports.

Marcia reminded everyone of the National Meeting to be held September 15-18 in Lexington, KY.  Vanessa Hoines and Kristi Berdal have expressed interest in attending.

Election of Vice President and Secretary:  Callie Johnson was elected Vice President and Kari Helgoe was elected as secretary.  Our new president is Samantha Roth.

Meeting adjourned.

Kristi Berdal, Secretary
