Celebrate National Agriculture Day

National Agriculture Day will be celebrated across the country on March 20, 2018, during National Ag Week (March 18-24) marking its 45th anniversary celebration.  The program encourages every American to:

  • understand how food and fiber products are produced
  • appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant, and affordable products
  • value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy
  • acknowledge and consider career opportunities in the agriculture, food and fiber industry.

We are kicking off our agriculture appreciation just a couple of days early locally with Morton County Ag Day on March 15th, 2018. We welcome you to join us for a special day filled with education about agriculture. There will be a petting zoo, agriculture education booths, sheep shearing demonstrations, Farm Safety Puppet Shows, and more. This event is free to the public and is put on by the Morton County Farm Bureau.

Though we set one day aside for to celebrate agriculture, appreciation for it should not be limited to just one week or one day a year. Agriculture is part of each one of us, every day. We are fortunate enough to live in a rural state and community where many of us either know someone who is involved in agriculture or are directly involved on our own farms and ranches. We don’t have to go far to see a new born calf hopping around a pasture, or rolling green fields of grain. So be sure to thank a farmer when you see them and think about how agriculture is a part of your life every day.

The theme for National Ag Day 2018 is "Agriculture: Food For Life." Events around the country will honor National Agriculture Day and mark a nationwide effort to tell the true story of American agriculture and remind citizens that agriculture is a part of all of us. National Ag Day is organized by the Agriculture Council of America. ACA is a nonprofit organization composed of leaders in the agricultural, food and fiber community, dedicating its efforts to increasing the public's awareness of agriculture's role in modern society.
