It is being required by the North Dakota State Fair that all livestock exhibitors are to be certified in Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA). It will be required for all Morton County Livestock Exhibitors to be certified if they wish to exhibit at Morton County Achievement Days.

All Exhibitors showing beef, sheep, swine, dairy, goats, market rabbits and poultry will need to complete this training.

YQCA promotes the development of a common framework for youth livestock quality assurance programs that will enhance the educational experience of youth, improve the care of animals and provide a higher level of food safety to consumers.

To become certified, you can either participate in an on-line program or attend an instructor-led training.  Marissa Leier will be holding such a training on April 23, 2018 at the Morton County Courthouse, 210 2nd Avenue NW, in Mandan at 6:30 p.m.  This will last approximately 1 hour to 1 ½ hours.  The cost for this training is $3.  In order to register, pay, and to obtain your certification number, families must go on-line at http://yqca.org (Firefox and Chrome browsers appear to work the best).  You can pay by credit card or you can buy a YQCA Coupon to pay with for your $3. We will retrieve certification numbers after the training.

To participate on-line, please go to: http://yqca.org . The cost of on-line participation is $12.  You may pay by credit card, or by coupon.  The brochure has instructions on how to sign in for both on-line training and an instructor-led training. Whichever way you decide to become certified, you will need to go on-line to register.  You will need to know your 4-H Online registration and password.

We ask that once you become certified, you inform our office of the certification number and the date of your training.  According to the Children’s Online Privacy Protection At (COOPA), only the 4-H’er can give us their YQCA certification ID number.  Our office will enter that data into your 4-H Online profile.

You will need to obtain and submit your YQCA certification number to the Morton County Extension Office by June 20, 2018.

Thank you for your cooperation in this certification process.  This will be a yearly requirement for both the North Dakota State Fair and the Morton County 4-H Achievement Days.  Please call us with questions at 701-667-3340 or email us at Marissa.M.Leier@ndsu.edu or Karla.Meikle@ndsu.edu.
