Good Morning to All of You,

I was able to spend the week at North Dakota 4-H Camp and enjoy teaching archery, shotgun, air rifle and small bore rifle.  We spent a day fishing and for the first time ever, I actually had campers approach me on Wednesday afternoon wondering if they could have nap time!  I was a little shocked to say the least, but it made me feel good that they were allowing themselves to experience new things, have fun and make lifelong friends.  I always say I can’t wait till my camp week is over, when in reality, I really do enjoy it, it’s just a lot planning so the campers don’t get bored.

With that, I have a few things for the week including still waiting for rain, hopefully we get some of what eastern North Dakota has been experiencing soon.  I know we would all welcome the much needed moisture.

We are headed to Grand Island, Nebraska to participate in the National 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational the week of June 25.  There is three days of competition and a great opportunity to network with over 750 youth from across the US.  If you would like to follow our progress, watch the Morton County 4-H Facebook page or the North Dakota 4-H Shooting Sports Facebook page.

You can find forms on our website at https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/mortoncountyextension/4h-and-youth/4-h-forms/animal-record-books-forms If you would like to stop in the office we can also provide you a copy of record books.

All Livestock and Horse Exhibitors are required to complete a record book and participate in interview judging on Thursday, August 3.  Failure to do so will result in no premium money awarded, ineligible for Grands or Reserves or participate in the premium sale. Policy per Morton County 4-H Council.

If you are planning on competing in English Events at the County Fair, please remember you will need to make arrangements for the necessary equipment, including jumping etc.  If you have questions, please notify the office.

If you have 10 or more items to have judged, we ask that you start at 8:30am.  If you see a participant in line behind you that has a long sleeved white shirt and cowboy hat on, please have them move in front of you so they will be able to complete the interview judging process and move on to Horse Achievement Day.

We will be have a break in interview judging at 10:00am to allow for a group picture at the crow’s nest in the rodeo arena.  Hopefully, this will allow for more 4-H members to be in the group photo.  This is always fun for me as I get to see all of you in your 4-H best and all your smiles.  We use the photo as a yearend thank you to all of our wonderful sponsors of 4-H.

The Go-Getters 4-H Club would like to invite you to their 4-H meeting on Tuesday, July 11 at 6:00pm to learn how to show your rabbits at the Morton County Fair.  This is a great opportunity to gain some pointers before August 3. The event will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church.  The address is 2362 County Rd 136 St. Anthony, North Dakota.

Do you have your exhibits ready for the Morton County Fair?  Bring them into the office and we will review them and send them to the state fair this year.  Do you have items from last year’s county fair that you would like to send to the state fair? We sure would like to see those blue ribbon exhibits at the North Dakota State Fair!  We want to fill up tables and show everyone the wonderful talents of youth from Morton County! Exhibits are due to the office on July 10.  Perishables including gardening, crops, flowers, bake goods and canning need to be in the office on Tuesday 18 by 9:00am.  This will allow us to make exhibit tags and pack everything to travel to Minot.

I will be out of the office until Monday, July 3.  I will be answering emails and phone messages in the evening from Grand Island if you want to leave me a message, I will get back to you.

Have a great week!
