4-H Weekly Update
August 31, 2016

Hello Everyone!  Hope you are all adjusting to the new school year! We have a few things to share with you.

4-H RAFFLE
We have quite a few tickets still out that need to be turned in by 5pm on Wednesday, August 31.  Drawings will start on Thursday at 8:00am for the $500.00 1st of September prize.  We will post results on our facebook page and the NDSU Extension Service website.  We will not be drawing the weekend winners until Monday mornings.  Please be patient, we will get the names posted as soon as we can.

NORTH DAKOTA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE SWEET CORN
Thank you to all of you that picked sweet corn with us on August 16!  We saw you there and are appreciative of your efforts.  Special shout out to the Go-Getters 4-H Club for having the most representation for Morton County 4-H!  We did a great thing by picking over 3 acres of corn for the Hunger Free Garden project.  Commissioner Goehring stopped and talked to Jackie and I and he was very thankful for the extra help.

THANK YOU’S
I have been out and about and have seen your thank you’s hanging at businesses across Bismarck – Mandan!  It’s so exciting to see faces I know taking time to thank our wonderful sponsors.  If you haven’t already done so, please send out your thank you notes, it is so very important!

PROJECTS FROM THE STATE FAIR AND MORTON COUNTY FAIR
We still have projects in our office, some of them are being missed I’m sure.  You have until Friday, September 2 to collect your projects from both the state and county fairs or they will be thrown and you will lose half your premium money.

NEW 4-H YEAR
Enrollment for the 2016-2017 4-H year will begin on September 6.  I realize this is a change from the September 1 re-enrollment date we have had in the past, however, some updates are being made to the North Dakota sight and we need to allow time for those updates to be completed.  If for some reason, the date gets changed for re-enrolling we will let you know ASAP!

Also, a reminder to the 4-H leaders, I will need to have your 4-H secretary and treasurer books turned in at the next 4-H Council Meeting for the year end audit.

4-H COUNCIL MEETING
The next 4-H Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 6 at the Morton County Courthouse.  We will hand out secretary and treasurer books for the new 4-H year, recap the Morton County Fair events and do some planning for the new 4-H year.  We will also hold our annual election of 4-H Council Officers.  The meeting will begin at  7:00pm.

RECOGNITION NIGHT
Mark your calendars, 4-H Recognition Night is scheduled for Friday, October 7 starting at 6:00pm at the Mandan Moose Club.  More details to follow.

NATIONAL 4-H WEEK
I am working on plans for National 4-H Week which is October 2-8 and would love to hear your ideas on how to make it fun!

Last year I visited clubs and businesses with the 4-H Flag, took pictures and posted them on our Facebook page to recognize not only you, but the wonderful folks that donate to the 4-H program through financial support, volunteering or donation of supplies.  If you have a business that you think I should share our 4-H pride with, let me know!

One last note, I just want to thank everyone who made this past year such a success!  It was a great to travel the county and visit with all of you, share your success stories with my co-workers from across the state and learn a little bit about each and every one of you.  Thank you!  Here’s to another great 4-H year!
