WEEKLY 4-H Update
April 8, 2016

Here is the latest news from Morton County 4-H:

4-Her’s WANTED!
We need 4-Her’s to come into the office for a photo! Morton County 4-H received a generous grant from NextEra Energy who is presenting their check on Thursday, April 14th. We would like to have as many 4-Her’s as possible wearing their 4-H shirts. The shirts can be your club shirt or official 4-H shirt.  Please come in by 4:15 pm on the 14th.

Let the office know by Tuesday, April 12th if you can make it. karla.meikle@ndsu.edu or 667-3340.  Let’s make this a great photo shoot and show our appreciation!

STATE HORSE EVENTS
Congratulations to the Morton County Hippology teams that participated in the State 4-H Horse Events this past weekend in Fargo.  The Senior Hippology team made up of Brenna Hoger, Morgan Henke, Ashley Goldade and Brooke Heidrich placed 3rd in the Hippology contest and 4th in the Horse Quiz Bowl.  Morgan Henke placed 1st individually in the Hippology contest, while Ashley Goldade placed 5th overall in the State Horse Quiz Bowl as an individual.  The Junior Hippology team of Peyton Goldade, Samantha Johnson and Katelyn Eisenbeis placed 1st overall in the Hippology contest.  The Junior team also participated in the Horse Quiz Bowl, members were Peyton, Samantha, Katelyn, Brynn Vega and Ashton Boehm.  The Junior team received 3rd place.

IGNITE LEGENDARY LEADERS CONFERENCE
The Igniting Legendary Leaders conference is soon here (April 27-28), and I hope that you will consider attending if your schedule allows. The conference is a great opportunity to hear from many outstanding speakers and  network with others from around the state -  including representatives from the Bush Foundation.  This conference is for youth interested in pursuing leadership opportunities or wanting to network with people across North Dakota.  Please see the conference agenda at https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/ignite/conference-agenda  Also, if 4-H youth would like to go, please contact Karla to register, we are offering a discounted rate of $25.00 for youth interested in attending this conference. PRIDE OF THE PRAIRIE SHOW PIG SALE
The NDSU Livestock Sales and Marketing Students are planning their 2nd Annual Pride of the Prairie Show Pig Sale. The sale will be held Saturday, April 30th on the NDSU campus at Shepperd Arena. The day's events start at 9:00am with a line-up of swine educational sessions, with topics including nutrition, health, meats, and Pork Quality Assurance, all presented by NDSU Swine Extension. Viewing of the offerings will be available that morning, with the sale starting promptly at 1:00pm. Also, a complimentary lunch will be served at noon.

The Pride of the Prairie Show Pig Sale is entirely managed by NDSU students. This year's offering will consist of 35-40 high quality show gilts and barrows. NORTHERN ELITE BOER GOAT AND CLUB LAMB SALE
Northern Elite Boer Goat and Club Lamb Sale will be held on Sunday April 10th at 2:00pm at the Morton County Fairgorounds.  Viewing starts at 11:30am.  Lunch will be served at noon.

MISSOURI RIVER 3-D ARCHERY SHOOT
The  4th Annual Missouri River 3D Shoot registration is underway.  It will be held April 30, 2016 at Nishu Bowmen in Bismarck.  The cost is only $15 and youth do not need to be a 4-H’er to participate!

MEAT JUDGING WORKOUTS
We will  be having our first practice of the season  next week, Thursday, April 14, 2016 at the Burleigh County Extension Office. Both Burleigh and Morton County  4-H/FFA members are welcome to participate, we will be having practice on a weekly basis on Thursday nights and hopefully have a scheduled workout before the State competition in June.

We will start practice at 6:00PM-8:00PM and start by handing out information and introducing Meat Judging.  Every week we will build and review on the past week’s information.   

CONSUMER CHOICES REGISTRATION

DISTRICT COMMUNICATION ARTS CONTEST
The District Communication Arts Contest will be held on Tuesday May 31 at 4:00pm at Christ the King School.  Registration will begin at 3:30pm.  Please register at http://tinyurl.com/2016CommunicationArts

PROJECT REGISTRATION DEADLINE
The deadline for registering for projects for the 2015-2016 4-H year is May 1.  You will not be able to add or drop projects after this date.

DO YOUR OWN THING
The Do Your Own Thing project paperwork needs to be approved by Karla Meikle by May 15th in order for a 4-Her to exhibit in this project at General Achievement Day, August 4th.
