September 4, 2019

It’s been a long time since my last 4-H Update so I have a few things.  First, thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone that made the Morton County 4-H Achievement Days such a success!  I can’t say enough how much we appreciated everyone’s help and energy during this time.  You are wonderful!

In this week’s 4-H Update

                Running’s Grand Opening Fundraiser
                Wind Tower Open House
                4-H Council Meeting
                National 4-H Week
                4-H Recognition Night
                4-H Enrollment
                4-H Premium Sale Checks
                Thank You’s

We were asked to sell hotdogs as part of the Grand Opening of the Running’s in Mandan.  We need help on September 13 & 14 from 11am to 3pm.  Assistance includes selling hotdogs, cleaning tables, grilling hotdogs and putting together a plate which includes potato chips, hotdog and water which we will sell for $2.00 each.  The price and menu was set by Running’s  If you can help out, I would really appreciate it.  I can assist on Friday, but Saturday I am working another event I was committed to before this came up.  Please let me know if you can help out, call or email me.  Thanks.

We will be guests of Allete Wind Energy on Tuesday, September 17 at 10:00am in Glen Ullin.  The company contacted the office and has a donation for us and asked if we would attend the open house.  I realize it is a school day, but if any club leaders would like to join me, please rsvp to me by Monday, September 9.

The 4-H Council will meet in New Salem at 7:00pm on Tuesday, September 17.  We will recap the fair, plan ahead for the 2019-2020 4-H Year and also look for ideas for the 60th Anniversary of the Morton County Fair in 2020.

National 4-H Week is October 6-12.  Watch for opportunities to celebrate in the next 4-H update.

We have recognition night scheduled for Wednesday, October 16 at the Mandan Eagles.  We will start the festivities off at 6:00pm.  Dance to follow with music by Sam Peterson.

Please enroll for the new 4-H year beginning Thursday, September 5.  There is no enrollment fee this year!!  If you have questions about enrolling, please contact the office.

You will be receiving your premium sale checks as the buyer of your premium pays the bank.  Do not contact the bank if you have questions.  Contact the office here at 701-667-3340.  Remember though, that once your buyer pays, you will be issued a check so the holdup is not the bank or the Extension office.  We must be patient as some businesses only write out checks at the end of the month.

By now I usually see thank you notes at area businesses from our 4-H members.  This is not the case this year.  I have seen a couple but not near as many as I should have seen.  Remember, the most important thing you can do once you receive your thank you boards and lists is to send a thank you.  Those businesses have donated generously.  The time to send a thank you is not next year right before the premium sale or fair, it is now.  Please if you do one thing for me this week, send a thank you!

I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend.  I was able to take a few days off and watch the Bison at Target Field.  I saw some of you also attended as I watch your Facebook and Instagram posts.  Here’s to a great week and even better weekend as the Bison take on the Fighting Hawks of the north!  Go Bison!
