Morton County 4-H Council Minutes

March 2, 2021

Call to Order:  Wendy Boehm

Secretary’s Report: Approved – Motion to approve by Becky 2nd by Chandra

Treasurer’s Report: $11,288.38 in Account; $2,878.03 in CD – Motion to pass by Becky – 2nd by Chandra

Attendance: Peggy B., Wendy, Jeff, Chandra, Vanessa, Jana, Renee, Karla, Kyla, Jenny, Kari.    Guests:  Kendra Boehm, ShiAnne, Boehm

 

Youth Presentation:

          Kendra & ShiAnne Boehm attended to talk about the Shooting Sports National Competition in Grand Island, NE & ask for sponsorship money to help them attend the competition.  4 day competition held the end of June.  Shooting & written testing during competition.  Hettinger County has 2 attending that will take care of their own fundraising.  Motion by Kyla, seconded by Chandra to approve funding of $750.

 

Old Business:

  • Recognition night: None for 2020 due to Covid.  Recognition video on FB page.  Eagles is reserved for 10/1/2021.
  • Livestock Judging:  11 youth to participate in State Competition. 
  • Livestock Quiz Bowl:  8 youth to compete in State competition.
  • Archery: Practice started in January.  Group is full.

 

New Business:

  • Managing Control Deadline:  Beef, Swine, Sheep, Horse & Goats is May 1.  Dairy is June 1. Market Beef is March 15.  Must be done every year.  Must be done online this year.
  • Fair entry Program: Open June 1-July 8 to register fair exhibits. 
  • Project enrollment deadline is May 1st- Exhibits will need to be entered in FairEntry starting June 1.  If project is not entered in 4H online you can not enter in FairEntry & it can not be exhibited during the fair.
  • Horse Achievement Days:  Different scenarios presented to lessen stress on youth, parents & volunteers.  Will be discussed further at a later date.
  • Livestock Achievement Day:  Must be enrolled in event in order to participate.  This includes Cloverbuds. Check-in will be held on Thursday, August 5th in the swine barn-Mandatory
  • Exhibitor & Premium Sale buyer Picnic:  Will be held after premium sale.  We do have a sponsor to pick up the cost for this.  Great opportunity for youth and buyers to meet.
  • Concession Stand & Hours:  Breakfast until 4 pm will be used by 4H.  After 4 pm a German Food Vendor will take over & serve food.  Mobile Food Lab will not be available.
  • Youth Quality Care of Animals (YQCA):  Required for all animals.  Dates have been scheduled.
  • 4H Exhibit Silent Auction:  Youth exhibits can be sold. Youth responsible for making sure their project gets to auction tables after all ribbons are placed. Youth responsible for collecting payment & delivering project to buyer.  Get banner made to bring more focus to tables.  Will check on more advertising.
  • 4H Camp Schedule:  Registration starts March 15th.  Scholarships available.
  • 4H Communication Arts:  District contest is TBD.  State contest is July 25 @ State Fair Grounds.
  • 4H Consumer Decision Making:  County Contest TBD. State Contest July 27 @ State Fair Grounds
  • 4H Project Expo-State contest July 26th @ State Fair Grounds.
  • 4H Clothing Revue-State Contest July 26th @ State Fair Grounds.
  • Extension Youth Conference- June 21-24 @ NDSU Campus.  Scholarships available.  Youth must provide own transportation.  Age limit to attend:  Must have completed the 7th grade.

 

Other Business:

  • Country Fest Give Back Night: July 8th - Need youth to volunteer for Give Back Night & check presentation
  • Baking School:  2nd through 4th grade plus a parent.  Video based.  Classes throughout the month of April.  Will receive 5 free recipes & baking kit.
  • Fairboard:  Original was disbanned.  New board members have been appointed.  Members must go through an application process & approved by the county commissioners.  9 voting members, 2 associate members, 2 appointed members (New Salem Park Board & County Commissioner). 
  • Next meeting- June 15th @ Morton County Fair Grounds @ 7 pm.
