Consumer Decision Making

On June 7, 2018 the Morton County 4-H Consumer Decision Making contest was held at Christ the King School in Mandan. Consumer Decision Making teaches youth how to make decisions based on information they have learned about the consumer items they are judging. Beginners learned about what to consider when purchasing T-shirts, Pets and Bread.  Juniors and Seniors focused on purchasing Wearable Technology, Toys and Healthy Snacks.

Once their decisions have been made, they are asked to defend their reasons by doing an oral presentation for the judge.  This activity builds decision making skills, public speaking, confidence and the ability to defend your decisions.

High individuals in each category were as follows:  Beginner – Carly Berger-Mandan, Junior – Bradley Barnhard-Mandan and Senior – Grace Berger-Mandan.  High individuals were awarded gift cards for Barnes and Nobel sponsored by the Morton County Homemakers Clubs.

The state contest will be held during the ND State Fair in Minot in July.  Participants in the Senior and Junior divisions will have the opportunity to represent Morton County at the state contest.

Congratulations to all the participants of the Consumer Choices contest! Good luck at the state contest!
