West River Judging Contest

The West River Livestock Judging Contest was held Saturday, February 25, 2017 in Beulah. Close to 600 youth competed in 4-H and FFA Contests. Contests were held in 4-H Livestock Judging junior and senior divisions, 4-H Crops Judging, FFA Livestock Judging, Ag Sales, Agronomy and 4-H and FFA Hippology.

The Morton County 4-H Junior Livestock Judging team placed 8th in the contest. Team members were: Chase Heim, Wilton, Clayton Marohl, Solen, Medora Ellingson, St. Anthony and Jada and Justin Bonogofsky from Mandan. The junior team was 11th in beef, 5th in oral reasons, and 7th in swine judging. Individually Medora was 18th overall and 15th in reason and 12th in sheep. Chase was 12th in oral reasons.

The Morton County Senior Team placed fourth in the contest. The teams was 3rd in beef, 2nd in oral reasons, and 2nd in sheep and 5th in swine. Team members were Sierra Ellingson, and Kourtney Schaff St. Anthony, Jacy Hauge, Leith, Allison Smith, and Tyrel Clarys, Mandan. Individually Sierra was 2nd high individual overall, first in beef, oral reasons, sheep and 8th in swine. Kourtney was 12th high overall and 10th in beef, 11th in oral reasons, and 11th in sheep. Jacy was 20th high overall, 6th in oral reasons, and 9th in sheep. Allison was 20th in beef and 17th in reasons. The teams are coached by Luke Keller and Jackie Buckley, Mandan and Ben Tokach, St. Anthony. The teams will be participating in the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest on Saturday, March 4, 2017 on the NDSU Campus in Fargo.
