Mercer County Crops Educational Day

Mercer County Crops Educational Day, Chad Anderson, 2017 Crop Variety Review, 2018 Selections

Submitted by Craig Askim, Extension Agent/Agriculture and Natural Resources

Producers, before making planting decisions for 2018, I invite you to the Mercer County Crops Educational Day Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the Beulah Civic Center. Chad Anderson, NDSU North Central Research Extension Center Farm Manager, will be the guest speaker and will have a session on “2017 Crop Variety Review and Planning for 2018 Selections.”

This year will be no exception, in that producers need to consider all aspects of production to increase the bottom line. I will present a county Extension update, focusing on issues Mercer County producers should be aware of, including:

  • Figuring Land Rental Rates other than just looking at $$$
  • How to Increase Protein Levels in Wheat
  • Nitrate Testing Update
  • Palmer Amaranth, the weed with more potential harm than Canada Thistle

The crops educational day begins at 9:30 a.m. and is free and open to the public. County Commodity Elections for barley and canola will be held at 11 a.m. with the Annual Mercer County Crop Improvement Meeting to convene at 11:10 a.m.

Call 873-5195 for more information. Requests for accommodations related to disability should be made to NDSU Extension Service Mercer County at 701-873-5195 one week prior to the event

I look forward to seeing you January 30.
