NDSU Extension Service is holding a tractor safety school May 29-31 at the ND 4-H Camp near Washburn, ND. There is also an all-terrain vehicle safety certification program that will be held during this camp.

Tractor Safety School is designed for youth ages 14-15. Youth who are 13 can participate, their license will become valid when they reach their 14th birthday. Youth do not have to be a 4-H member to sign up for the school.

Completion of the course will allow youth to operate farm equipment for someone other than immediate family members.  The U.S. Department of Labor’s Hazardous Occupations Order in Agriculture (AgHOs) regulation prohibits 14- and 15-year-olds from operating farm tractors and attached powered equipment unless they have successfully completed an approved safe tractor and machinery operation training program.

McIntosh County Ag Improvement Association will pay $50 of the $135 registration fee for a limited number of McIntosh County residents.  Please call the McIntosh County Extension Office @ 701-288-5180 for more information. The deadline to register is May 1 and registration is limited to 15 participants.
