Topic – Using the “but for” principle to document program impacts

PowerPoint Presentation

Extension organizations nationally are constantly asked by stakeholders—including county, state and Federal funders—to document the impacts of their efforts in order to merit continued support. “Impacts” are the changes in conditions that can be attributed to an Extension program.  Use of the "but for" attribution principle requires Extension staff to ask informed community members questions if the Extension program was a critical factor in producing the program’s impact.  This webinar provides some background on impact evaluation strategies, the "but for" principle, and practical tips for collecting evaluation based on this principle.
